Madness as Real Madrid look to scupper Naby Keita deal

It’s no surprise that transfer stories are circulating that link Liverpool players to Real Madrid, with two weeks to go before the Champions League Final.

The tactic is a familiar one from the Spanish giants and we’re not the first club to fall victim of it.

But to be fair, we thought the majority of the rumours would involve Mo Salah, following the Egyptian’s 43-goal campaign.

Bleacher Report’s Liverpool correspondent Dean Jones has claimed though that Real Madrid actually enquired about whether they could sign Naby Keita from us, before the Guinean has even kicked a ball.

We will pay £53m for the 23-year-old dynamo, after Rb Leipzig failed to qualify for the Champions League [Echo], which was agreed last summer.

He’ll officially join in July – but Los Blancos thought they could steal him from our grasp.

“Real Madrid showed late interest in Keita and have even considered offering Liverpool double the £48 million fee they agreed with RB Leipzig last year,” Jones writes.

“Whether or not their idea has made it as far as Anfield is not clear, but it would be pointless anyway. ‘There is no way Liverpool would agree to sell him before he has played a game,’ an Anfield insider said.”

They’ve got some cheek, haven’t they?

Asking their Champions League Final opponents if they could buy a player who hasn’t even officially joined us yet…

It does show of course how unbelievably highly Keita is rated, which makes us even more excited to see him.

He’s played his last game for Rb Leipzig now and the next time he plays will be in Liverpool red!
