Long-term Liverpool target set for shock free transfer

Liverpool can scratch one name off their supposed wish-list of playmakers as they seek to add reinforcements over the summer.

Schalke’s Max Meyer has long-owned a spot on the Reds’ transfer radar as well as attracting interest from Arsenal thanks to his lasting impression in the Bundesliga.

Since entering the final year of his contract at the club, the 22-year-old has been subject to familiar speculation linking him to a Premier League switch ahead of the 2018/2019.

Whilst rumours of a move look set to become a reality, it appears a switch to England is firmly off the cards.

Meyer has agreed to joining German side Hoffenheim when his current deal expires, according to German outlet Leipziger Volkszeitung.

Meyer is among the company of Cristian Tello, Marco Reus, Yevhen Konoplyanka as a man to have spent large parts of his career linked to a move to Anfield.

The young German midfielder has endured a mixed season with Schalke, seemingly engaging in a dispute with the club over his future.

His agility to beat markers, vision to dissect defences and versatility to drift into a number of midfield roles all make him well-suited to Liverpool’s interchanging system and Arsenal’s intricate build-up play, making interest from both self-explanatory.

At the age of just 22, it might well be that another high-profile move beckons after a spell under Hoffenheim’s talented young manager Julian Nagelsmann.
