Paul Joyce stated we are ‘closing in’ via the Times and James Pearce claimed the same in the Echo.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a phenomenal season for Lyon, firing them to Champions League qualification via Ligue 1, scoring 23 goals and registering nine assists in all competitions.

But he seems pretty keen on the idea of an Anfield switch, based on his latest comments.

“Why not?” he told RTL when posed a question about moving to Liverpool. “There will be discussions with the President, with my entourage, to make a decision. In life, it is not necessary to forbid anything.”

Fekir will be a terrific signing because of his attributes and versatility.

The France international is quick, can dribble, scores goals and has the vision to create chances for team-mates. In short, he’s the perfect Coutinho replacement.

We’ve coped brilliantly without the Brazilian, but the midfield misses his creative genius and has been relying on the brilliance of the front-three since January.

Fekir can play as a no.8, a no.10 or on the flank in a front-three, boosting our options in many ways.

Hopefully in a few weeks’ time he’ll be joining the European champions.
