Spanish journo uses dirty tactics in Marcelo interview with Klopp lie

Marcelo was told by a journalist in yesterday’s press-conference that Jurgen Klopp had said he couldn’t defend.

Except, this never actually happened.

The Brazilian dealt with it quite well, but it’s only likely to fire him up – which irritates us as Liverpool’s manager would never disrespect an opposing player in such a manner before a game – let alone the Champions League Final.

Chris Bascombe of the Telegraph tweeted the exchange:

There was an interview with the Mirror in which Klopp said the public opinion of Marcelo was that he can’t defend, but then said this wasn’t actually accurate.

The reporter has cut off and purposely misinterpreted for his own benefit, as it was blatantly clear what Klopp actually meant.

Still, this is a minor issue in the preparation for the game tonight in Kiev.

Marcelo is a brilliant player and actually one of Real Madrid’s game-changers, despite starting at left-back.

We hope Mo Salah can win his individual battle with the world-class 30-year-old, mind.

It’ll be a game of cat and mouse with the pair. Liverpool are in danger if Salah lets Marcelo get forward without tracking him, but the Egyptian can capitalise with the space in behind if we win back possession.
