Firmino played special role in Fabinho transfer

Roberto Firmino played a big part in convincing Brazilian counterpart Fabinho that Liverpool was the right club and city for him to join.

Last night, about an hour after the news we were genuinely interested broke, Liverpool announced the signing of AS Monaco’s 24-year-old anchorman.

The news is very exciting and has made us all feel good again after our disappointing Champions League Final defeat on Saturday night.

A player of Fabinho’s ability would have been mighty handy, actually, but we’re he’ll play a big role in next season’s competition.

Fabinho has explained the role Firmino had in his Anfield switch and why Bobby will make his transition easier.

“We spoke a bit more about how the city was, about the infrastructure of the club, the city and we also spoke about the coaches and how they do their work,” Fabinho told the club’s website, cited by Goal.

“So I was able to know a bit more about Liverpool through Firmino. I had been with him at the Brazilian national team on a few occasions.

“I know he’s a fantastic person, his background is from nice people. He is also very good for someone who comes to a new country, a new city – someone who speaks the same language.

“This will of course make the adaptation much easier.”

We’re glad there’s another Brazilian at the club for Firmino’s sake, too.

His two countryman Lucas and Coutinho exited in the past year, so we’re happy there’s another native speaker!

If Fabinho turns out half as good Bobby, we’ll be in for a treat.
