Thibaut Courtois to Liverpool: Contract dispute opens door for mega-signing

A dubious report by Gianluca di Marzio claims that both Real Madrid and Liverpool are eyeing Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois.

The article suggests that with the giant Belgian’s contract expiring in 2019, Chelsea have little choice but to offload him this summer to garner a hefty transfer fee and avoid losing him on a free next summer.

Courtois is regarded as one of the best keepers on the planet, although his form the past two seasons hasn’t been quite what it once was at Atletico Madrid.

Still, he’s a mighty upgrade on what Liverpool currently have at our disposal in Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet.

The report suggests Chelsea could move for Alisson if they do lose Courtois, but the Brazilian is also being targeted by Real Madrid and Liverpool – in what could end up being somewhat of a transfer merry-go-round.

Right now, we’d happily take either. Alisson is probably better with his feet and faster off his goal-line, but Courtois has Premier League experience, is a bigger presence in his goal and has the penchant for jaw-dropping saves due to his colossal frame.

A new goalkeeper simply must be acquired this window, and the fact we’re shopping at the same market as Real Madrid is promising, whoever we end up securing.
