New theory revealed on Nabil Fekir’s delayed £53m switch to Liverpool

A rocky conclusion to the Nabil Fekir transfer saga has embodied a catalogue of familiar failings in the modern transfer window.

Conflicting reports and leaked stories may have been the source of entertainment for fans, but also serve as tarnishing aspects to the deal for both Liverpool and Lyon.

An official unveiling of Fekir was expected to take place on Friday in light of a £53million fee and personal terms being agreed, not to mention images of the Frenchman taking part in an official LFCTV interview being dispersed across social media.

Late reports, however, implied a delay in the deal as a result of concerns raised in Fekir’s medical over a knee injury that saw him sidelined for much of the 2015/2016 campaign.

In a separate theory, RMC Sport claim Lyon are stalling the completion of the move in order to put the transfer on next year’s accounts, which would mean waiting until after June 30.

As unlikely as such an idea seems, the wait would arguably do no harm when considering Fekir’s participation at the World Cup finals.

Lyon’s preference has seemingly always been to leave the deal until after this month’s tournament, which now looks increasingly possible given France manager Didier Deschamps’ apparent reluctance to let his players engage in transfer business whilst in Russia.

With Fekir having appeared to set his heart on Anfield, Reds would be justified in remaining optimistic of the deal eventually being finalised.
