Liverpool are preparing for a back and forth start to the season as the announcement revealed alternating home and away games over the opening month.

The Reds will kick off their campaign at home to an enigmatic West Ham United in the process of a fresh transition period under the management of Manuel Pellegrini.

This is followed by a visit to face Crystal Palace, before a return to Anfield to host Brighton and a trip to Leicester on the first day of September.

Liverpool star admits new signing threatens his place in the team

December marks the start of a gruelling string of fixtures, starting with the first Merseyside derby of the season at Anfield.

Visits to a notoriously stern Burnley and Eddie Howe’s unpredictable Bournemouth are then followed by a home clash with Manchester United.

Just two days then separate an away meeting with Arsenal before a New Year’s Day contest at home to reigning champions Manchester City.

A congregation of tough games could, however, prove useful in demanding a maintained intensity as the Reds seek to mount a Premier League title challenge.

At first glance, four wins from four to start the campaign looks a reasonable objective in light of reinforcements strengthening the squad even further over the summer.
