Real Madrid reach agreement with €80m Liverpool target

Real Madrid are reportedly edging closer towards finding their new no.1 after moving ahead in the race for Alisson.

The Roma goalkeeper had been a long-term target for Liverpool, until the Reds seemingly diffused their interest after being put off by his €80m valuation.

Champions League winners Real consequently stole a lead on their Kiev opponents in aim of finding an alternative to current starter Keylor Navas.

That being said, it remains to be seen whether recently-appointed manager Julen Lopetegui will have a say in the club’s pursuit of the Brazilian, taking into consideration Madrid’s long-term admiration for David de Gea and his familiarity with the former Spain national team manager.

Regardless, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo report that an agreement has been reached with Alisson himself, although discussions over a fee remain ongoing.

A goalkeeper surely remains a priority on Jurgen Klopp’s wishlist following Loris Karius’ Champions League final nightmare.

Nonetheless, there is a growing hunch on Merseyside that Klopp will look to rejuvenate Karius and head into the new season with the German and Danny Ward as his goalkeeping options, with Simon Mignolet expected to leave.

Karius’ costly errors confronted the Reds’ boss with an untimely dilemma heading into the summer, following a vastly-improved spell of form in which he had potentially earned his starting spot in 2018/2019.

The enormity of the occasion has seen his torrid evening widely-deemed the end of his career on Merseyside, paving a daunting route back to confidence and form if Klopp is to keep his faith in him.
