Real Madrid’s measly opening bid for Alisson could prove telling to Liverpool

Real Madrid are expected to fall significantly short of Roma’s valuation when they open the bidding for Alisson.

The 2017/2018 Champions League winners occupy pole position in the battle to sign the Brazilian as a result of Liverpool’s reluctance to meet his reported £80million asking-price.

Roma are seemingly yet to receive a concrete offer for their no.1, who enjoyed an outstanding first season as starter for the Serie A club.

Madrid are set to open proceedings with an offer of £43.7million and are not willing to pay more than £52.4m + £8.4m in add-ons, according to Sky Sports.

This is likely to be met with a stern rejection if Roma are insistent on demanding a world-record fee for a goalkeeper.

Any sign of leniency on Roma’s part could prove telling in Liverpool’s chances of landing Alisson for a reduced fee before they eased their interest.

The 25-year-old is notably prepared to stay put for at least another season if a deal doesn’t materialise, although reports have also suggested he has already agreed personal terms with Real Madrid.

Roma president James Pallotta recently quashed claims he made in good humour that Alisson would be moving to the Bernabeu and hinted at the prospect of him remaining in Italy.

Real Madrid’s search for a goalkeeper could branch off towards Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, who looks certain to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

With a new no.1 excepted to arrive at the La Liga giants, a less-coveted opportunity comes in the form of Keylor Navas becoming availability as Liverpool look to replace Loris Karius.
