Hardly surprising, but Real Madrid look set to beat Liverpool to the signing of Roma goalkeeper Alisson.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Reds never really followed up on initial interest in the Brazilian shot-stopper, so it looks like he’s probably too expensive for us.

Additional information from the Metro suggests there is optimism from Real Madrid that they can get Alisson for around £52million after he agreed terms on a move to the Bernabeu.

It’s no secret we could do with improving on Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet, but £52m probably is slightly out of our price range for a goalkeeper.

Roma may also be particularly keen to avoid selling to us again after we got Mo Salah off them for so cheap last summer, so that may be a factor in our struggles to get this done.

Ultimately, though, it’s disappointing because it also means Real won’t be doing us any favours by snapping up David de Gea or Thibaut Courtois any time soon.
