Liverpool learn price for new target after showing ‘concrete interest’

Liverpool’s ongoing search for a new goalkeeper is set to entail a regression in asking-prices following the club’s diffused interest in Alisson.

The Roma shot-stopper’s £80million valuation recently saw the Reds ease their pursuit and is even proving costly for the financial power of Real Madrid.

Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha is the latest occupant of a spot on the rumour mill having retained his starting role in 37 of his side’s 38 Serie A games last season.

His experience at the age of just 23 is showing signs of advertising him as a viable long-term solution, although there remains the factor of the often-tricky transition to English football for foreign keepers to take into consideration.

Liverpool have shown ‘concrete interest’ and been informed it will cost around  €40million to lure Strakosha to Anfield, according to Alfredo Pedulla.

Still something of an unknown commodity, Strakosha has built a reputation as an unconventional shot-stopper with an apparent preference to punch and parry rather than catch.

At first glance, he flaunts swift reflexes and the athleticism and mobility to both move across his line quickly and get down to cover low shots.

Whilst Lazio scored a league-high 89 goals last season, they also conceded the most out of the top nine teams with 49 – hinting at a lack of adequate protection for the Albanian international.

Meanwhile, Barcelona’s Jasper Cillessen has also been rumoured as a potential target although is likely to demand a significantly higher fee.

Jurgen Klopp’s current priority may prove t one finding a replacement for Philippe Coutinho following the collapse of a deal for Lyon captain Nabil Fekir.
