Liverpool willing to pay £35m to land Chelsea target

Liverpool are reportedly prepared to go head-to-head with Chelsea for the services of Porto left-back Alex Telles.

The 25-year-old has built a reputation as an overwhelmingly attack-orientated full-back with 14 assists in 30 league appearances to his name last season.

His rise to prominence entails a move from Gremio to Galatasaray in 2014, which later saw him spend the 2015/2016 season on loan with Inter Milan.

Telles then earned a move to Porto in 2016, where he began to find his form under the management of current Wolverhampton Wanders boss Nuno Espírito Santo.

He has now reportedly emerged as a target for both Liverpool and Chelsea, with A Bola claiming the Reds are prepared to pay his £35million release clause.

For Liverpool to target another left-back seems strange with Andrew Robertson proving extremely difficult to dislodge from the starting lineup.

The summer signing produced an outstanding season on Merseyside having been resigned to a frustrating role as backup to Alberto Moreno during the opening months of the campaign.

Besides offering a superior defensive value to his teammate, Robertson also surfaced as an unlikely attacking outlet with the quality in the final-third Moreno had failed to produce on such a consistent basis.

Seeking alternatives for the purposes of rotation and untimely injuries is logical, but £35million could arguably be spent better elsewhere.

Alleged interest in Telles does pose the question as to what the summer holds for Moreno, with the Spaniard having come close to leaving the club last year.
