LFC could have world’s most powerful CB duo if they snare World Cup beast -Guardian

Imagine being a striker and trying to get round Virgil van Dijk and Harry Maguire?!

Both are built like a proverbial bricksh*thouse – in the most complimentary way possible!

According to the Guardian, Liverpool have shortlisted Harry Maguire as an option to reinforce our defence, presumably to partner the world’s most expensive centre-back.

The 25-year-old stars for Leicester and starts for Gareth Southgate’s England team, although he was shaky during Monday’s game against Tunisia.

As a result, he’s also interesting Manchester City, says the report, who are keen on bolstering their central defensive options, despite having John Stones, Vincent Kompany, Nicolas Otamendi and Aymeric Laporte to choose from!

Liverpool’s first-choice partner for van Dijk at the moment is Dejan Lovren, who ended 2017/18 in the best form of his Anfield tenure.

We also have Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, but few would argue if a genuinely top notch centre-back was purchased before August.

Maguire is extremely powerful and has the potential to improve, but Leicester will surely demand an astronomical fee.

Liverpool should be spending big, big money on a goalkeeper and a playmaker – not necessarily a centre-back – so Maguire is one we think we should swerve for now.
