Liverpool’s search for a goalkeeper continues to raise more questions than answers following the club’s step back from previous first-choice target Alisson.
The Reds are currently believed to be considering alternatives for the Roma shot-stopper after diffusing their interest out of reluctance to pay upwards of £70million for his services.
Real Madrid have consequently moved into pole position for the Brazilian, despite club president Florentino Pérez laughing away suggestions he would be prepared to match the entirety of Roma’s asking-price.
Burnley’s Nick Pope and Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha have both surfaced as possible targets, with the former reportedly valued at a cut-price £18million.
Despite such suggestions, the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce has confirmed the club will not be targeting either player this summer.

With Simon Mignolet expected to depart in the current transfer window, Liverpool will seemingly be required to strengthen their goalkeeping department in some capacity.
It remains to be seen whether that will mean the recruitment of an outright no.1 or whether Jurgen Klopp will look to keep his faith in the pairing of Loris Karius and Danny Ward.
Pre-season could prove a useful opportunity for the latter to stake his claim for game time given Karius’ torrid Champions League final and the potential long-term implications of his night in Kiev.
Keylor Navas could be an inviting avenue to pursue if Real Madrid complete a move for Alisson, whilst there is also the unlikely but undoubtedly enticing availability of Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois to keep a watchful eye over.
Of the ever-extending list of targets, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Yann Sommer stands out as one of the more feasible options at a supposed £30million.
