Real Madrid star Marco Asensio has given a response of sorts to that rumoured Liverpool transfer bid of £158million for his services that emerged a few days ago.

How Fekir reacted to failed Liverpool move…

The 22-year-old, currently on World Cup duty with Spain, said he will talk about his future once the tournament is over, which is certainly not a rejection!

In all seriousness, this story seems too good to be true, but the fact that it’s come from Mundo Deportivo rather than something like Don Balon does make one wonder…

Asensio’s quotes have done the rounds on social media today, with the youngster, part of the Real squad that dealt us heartbreak in last season’s Champions League final, quoted as saying: ‘Liverpool? When the World Cup is over, we’ll talk about that sort of thing.’

With the Echo reporting that the Nabil Fekir deal fell through, it makes sense that we’d be in for another similar style of player, but do we really need to spend quite so much in an area where we’re pretty strong?

For instance, how much of that fee could go on a genuinely world class goalkeeper? Or a top central defensive partner for Virgil? It would surely be enough to bring in both.

Not that you’d complain about a player like Asensio, but it’s just a strange rumour and it’ll be interesting to see how it develops.
