Liverpool on alert as €60m goalkeeper seeks summer transfer

The class of European goalkeepers touted as potential Liverpool targets could be set to broaden in light of Jasper Cillessen’s latest career ambitions.

Barcelona’s shot-stopper is supposedly keen on continuing his career elsewhere in aid of gaining the regular first team football he has been denied of in Spain.

Cillessen mustered just 11 appearances last season as understudy to Marc-André ter Stegen, and has only managed a total of 21 outings since signing from Ajax in summer 2016.

Spanish outlet Sport claim that the 29-year-old is eager to leave the club and that Barcelona could be willing to lower their asking price to €30million from his €60million buyout clause.

Liverpool’s evident need for a new goalkeeper could see the Dutch international’s experience and cut-price availability elevate him as an enticing possibility.

Early speculation has bared clues of a goalkeeping carousel taking place this summer, with Liverpool expected to play a prominent role.

The Reds had been heavily linked to Roma’s Alisson, although eased off in their pursuit having been put off by his £70million valuation.

Whilst Real Madrid subsequently advanced into pole position for the Brazilian, president Florentino Perez has been similarly reluctant to part with such a hefty fee.

Chelsea have since entered the frame as favourites for Alisson having reportedly held discussions and appeared more open to matching Roma’s asking-price.

Success on their part would seemingly pave the way for Real Madrid to turn to Thibaut Courtois, unless Liverpool target Jan Oblak leaves a dream vacancy open for the Belgian at Atletico Madrid.

Amid the speculation, there has surprisingly been little said about the future of Real no.1 Keylor Navas.

It feels as though one move could kick Liverpool’s hunt for a new no.1 into motion.
