Curtis Davies pays touching tribute to Andy Robertson and Harry Maguire

Curtis Davies has hailed Andrew Robertson and Harry Maguire as role models to young children after their stunning seasons at club and international level.

Robertson has surfaced as a fan favourite on Merseyside thanks to his integral role in helping the Reds secure a top-four Premier League finish and reach the Champions League final.

Maguire’s major achievements came at national level, with the Leicester City centre-back helping England book a place in their first World Cup quarter-final since 2006 with Tuesday night’s shootout win over Colombia.

Former Hull City teammate Davies has reflected on their arrival as fresh-faced and ‘scruffy’ signings in 2014 as a means of epitomising their incredible progression four years down the line.

Robertson was forced to wait for an opportunity to make his mark on Merseyside as he played understudy to Alberto Moreno following his arrival last summer.

The Scottish international was granted an extended run in the side as a result of Moreno’s injury early in December, taking his chance in admirable fashion.

His commanding form saw him prove impossible to dislodge from the starting eleven even beyond the Spaniard’s return to fitness and became a significant factor in Liverpool’s defensive improvement.

Maguire himself was meanwhile excellent at Leicester and rightly rewarded with a place in Gareth Southgate’s starting lineup in Russia.

In a tweet dating back to 2012, Robertson laments a tough life without a job and money. Six years later, it’s that life that typifies his magnificent surge to stardom.
