Jordan Henderson makes history with mind-blowing England statistic

Jordan Henderson has now produced the longest unbeaten run from an individual player in the history of England’s national team.

The Liverpool skipper was on the winning side once again on Tuesday as the Three Lions booked their place at a first World Cup quarter-final since 2006.

Tottenham’s Eric Dier converted the decisive penalty in a tense shootout after Henderson himself had seen his effort expertly saved by David Ospina.

It marked his 28th England game without defeat, with the midfielder having won 22 and drawn on six occasions.

Henderson has been largely superb throughout the tournament in Russia, surfacing as one of Gareth Southgate’s instrumental leaders within a young squad.

He has unsurprisingly been a main implementor of his manager’s desired urgency and intensity, as well as offering more in advanced areas than Liverpool fans are used to seeing from him.

It would have been a cruel ending had Henderson’s superbly-stopped spot-kick been punished with elimination, especially on the back of a tournament in which he has turned the heads of fans that previously doubted his credentials as an England starter.

The decision to step up and take a penalty in such a high-stakes scenario and his reaction to return and motivate Dier following his miss recognised his value as a professional in the England setup.

His record is something of a teasing sub-story to hold on to as Southgate’s men look to get past Sweden on Saturday.
