Liverpool interest denied as €60m goalkeeper pursues summer transfer

All arrows continue to point towards Loris Karius retaining his position as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper next season.

The Reds have appeared to relax their search for a new shot-stopper after diffusing their interest in Roma’s Alisson due to his £70million valuation.

Lazio’s Thomas Strakosha and Burnley’s Nick Pope have since been pinpointed as targets, although those claims were swiftly quashed by reliable sources close to the club.

Barcelona’s Jasper Cillessen has been the latest name to emerge as an option having supposedly outlined his desire to leave the Nou Camp this summer in search of regular first-team football.

Nevertheless, the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce claims the Reds have no interest in the Dutchman.

Aware of the likelihood of Cillessen leaving, Barcelona are supposedly prepared to lower his €60million release clause to a €30million asking-price.

A major concern for potential suitors will be the fact the 29-year-old has managed just 21 appearances for the Catalan giants since signing from Ajax in summer 2016.

Liverpool’s goalkeeper situation is unlikely to gain some clarity until the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea make their own moves to acquire a new no.1.

Both remain interested in Brazil’s Alisson, whilst Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has meanwhile been linked with a move to the Bernabeu.

Karius and Danny Ward both returned for the first day of pre-season training on Monday, with Saturday’s opening friendly against Chester beckoning as an interesting early insight into Klopp’s plans for the pair.
