Klopp’s friend confirms LFC boss sent text to sign World Cup goalkeeper

One of the players we’ve been most impressed by at this World Cup is South Korea goalkeeper Hyun-Woo Choo.

He performed miracles against Germany and we were upset his side didn’t progress to the Last 16, actually.

But it turns out the ‘unknown quantity’ has been on Liverpool’s radar for some time, with a friend of Jurgen Klopp encouraging us to sign Choo six months ago.

Jørn Andersen played with Klopp at Frankfurt and the pair have remained close, with the Norwegian-born German now managing North Korea.

He told Dagbladet about the text he sent Liverpool’s boss:

“I do not think Klopp continues with Karius. I think Liverpool will pick up a new goalkeeper after the World Cup. Not only because of what happened in the Champions League final, but because he must have one who is better than he has. And I’m sitting with the feeling that Cho can end up in Liverpool.”

Choo is 26-years-old and currently plays for Daegu FC in his homeland, so would naturally jump at the chance of a move.

However, teams have been stung on countless occasion when they sign players based on World Cup performances alone.

And the rhetoric we’re hearing from the club is that Klopp is going to stick with Loris Karius for the upcoming campaign.

We agree with Andersen that this is foolish, but have learned to back the manager’s decision.
