Shock as key first-teamer demands exit due to Keita – Report

Gini Wijnaldum wants to leave Liverpool and be an automatic starter at Fenerbahce, claims Turkish source A Spor.

They reckon Wijnaldum is unhappy that Fabinho and Naby Keita have arrived and thinks he will have guaranteed minutes in Turkey under Dutchman Philip Cocu, who mentored his development at PSV before he moved to England.

The 27-year-old is a crucial part of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad and featured 49 times in all competitions last season – including the Champions League Final in which Liverpool lost to Real Madrid.

We’d suggest Gini is too good for Turkey right now, as he’s about to enter his peak years as a midfielder.

We also hope he decides to stay and battle for his place, as Klopp rotates heavily during the first half of every season and he’ll definitely play his part.

Last term, injuries mounted up and Gini was one of only three fit midfielders by the time we got to the end of the season.

He’s undeniably inconsistent and goes missing too often, but he has nice feet, works hard and is rated highly by the boss.

What’s more, he can play as a no.6 or a no.8 and if he finds a good run of form, he’ll be important again.

Remember how he played against AS Roma at Anfield.
