Liverpool in pole position to sign Brazilian after meeting with agent – report

Liverpool will be seemingly be the first in line to sign Alisson if they do opt to reignite their pursuit of the goalkeeper.

Roma’s no.1 remains Jurgen Klopp’s top goalkeeper target this summer, despite the club displaying a reluctance to meet his reported £70million valuation.

Chelsea are also keen on the Brazilian international as they prepare for life after Thibaut Courtois, who has been strongly linked to Real Madrid.

Despite claims, Roma director Monchi has insisted there is no specific price-tag in mind at this stage with the club having not yet received any formal offers for Alisson.

With that in mind, it may be that one of Liverpool or Chelsea test the waters with an official approach.

Italian outlet Il Romanista claim that the Reds are in pole position for Alisson having met with his agent Stefano Castagna back in June.

The Mirror reported on Sunday that Liverpool are expected to open the bidding for Alisson, who has also attracted the interest of Real Madrid this summer.

At the moment, it looks unlikely Klopp will recruit a new goalkeeper before the Premier League opener against West Ham on August 12.

Loris Karius has featured heavily in pre-season so far as he looks to restore some confidence following his nightmare Champions League final.

The German came under pressure again during the week, however, when he fumbled a free-kick into the path of Tranmere’s Jonny Smith for a close-range tap-in.

Pre-season will also be an opportunity for Danny Ward to stake his claim for the no.1 spot having been granted limited playing time since arriving at the club six years ago.

One man who could be on the move is Simon Mignolet when he returns from the World Cup with bronze medalists Belgium.
