Liverpool to open bidding for goalkeeper after surprise decision – report

Liverpool will reportedly start the bidding for Alisson having previously diffused their interest in the goalkeeper.

The Brazilian had surfaced as the Reds’ priority summer target until the club took a step back in light of his £70million valuation.

Having subsequently emerged as frontrunners for Alisson, Real Madrid displayed a similar reluctance to match the entirety of Roma’s asking-price.

In a new turn, the Mirror believe Liverpool are preparing to finally table a formal offer for the 25-year-old.

Roma director Monchi recently insisted the club had received no bids for their no.1 and therefore hadn’t yet decided on a desired fee for his services.

Speaking to reporters, he said: “It’s the same as [Alessandro] Florenzi, nothing has changed, because so far we have not received any offers.”

“I’d say it is strange to claim we have a price-tag in mind, because if we haven’t received any bids, we can’t think about a price.”

In that respect, Liverpool would seemingly become the first to make an official offer and likely kick start a brewing battle for the shot-stopper’s services.

Despite the denial of a specific price-tag, a report on Saturday suggested Roma would be willing to lower their demands closer to £60million.

With Thibaut Courtois continuing to be linked with a move to the Bernabeu, any Liverpool approach is now expected to be rivalled by Chelsea.

As it stands, Jurgen Klopp is in the process of monitoring Loris Karius’ progress following his nightmare Champions League final.

The Anfield boss has paved the way for backup Danny Ward to stake his claim for the no.1 jersey, although undoubtedly remains in the market for a new shot-stopper.
