LFC drop €60m+€10m bid for potential signing of the summer – Il Messaggero

Liverpool have lodged a mammoth bid for AS Roma stopper Alisson, as they look to fix the goalkeeping position once and for all, claims Italian outlet Il Messaggero.

Their report suggests we’ve offered €60m with a further €10m in add-ons, putting us ahead of Chelsea in the race for the Brazilian’s signature.

Il Messaggero state that Real Madrid offered €50m+€10m and will not go any higher, which effectively makes it a shootout between ourselves and Maurizio Sarri’s Blues.

In our opinion, an elite goalkeeper is an absolute priority and if we can secure the 25-year-old, we could finally claim to have one – after five years of Simon Mignolet or Loris Karius.

We’d actually suggest securing the no.1 spot is more important than buying a no.10 (such as Nabil Fekir), but ideally, we’d take both!

Real Madrid were previously interested in Alisson

The club has leaked information to the English press [Echo] which suggests we won’t buy a new stopper and will instead give Danny Ward a chance between our sticks – but the reports from Italy are very different.

Alisson’s agent has liked a picture of his client in photoshopped LFC kit and the keeper has removed AS Roma from his bio, so we reckon cogs are turning behind the scenes.

So who do we believe?

It’s not an exact science, to be honest. Ever since the Virgil van Dijk transfer broke down last summer because of premature ‘Done Deal’ reports leading to Southampton reporting us to the Premier League, the club has told the traditionally trusted correspondents far less information.

The Fabinho transfer was struck out of nowhere, for example, and it was the French press that initially broke our interest in Nabil Fekir.

As a result, we’re hopeful Il Messaggero have got the scoop and that the English journalists are behind the ball.

Let’s see what happens.
