For what it’s worth, we believe Liverpool are very much still in for Nabil Fekir – despite what the papers told us last night.
A report in the Independent said that Alisson would be our final addition of the summer, while the Mirror backed it up.

However, just last week, the club released information to journalists that Danny Ward would be our no.1 for the coming season – and we’re just about to sign Alisson for £66m…
Liverpool is now smartly using journalists for our own benefit rather than simply telling them what’s happening – and it’s been going on all summer.

The respected journalists had no idea about the Fabinho transfer before it was announced and it was French media who released the initial news on Fekir back in May – and have had the scoop before their English counterparts ever since.
So in our opinion, the club is feeding propaganda to correspondents for its own benefit – in this case – to convince Lyon to sell a now unsettled player.
Ben Smith, formerly of BBC Sport, agrees, judging by the tweets he just liked:
For what it’s worth, I think it’s all bullshit about Fekir being off the menu. LFC content to totally misdirect these days.

Not getting a replacement for Coutinho in January was disappointing but ultimately understandable. To fail to replace him having had 7 months to do so would be bordering on negligent. And I don’t think LFC are negligent these days.

Guttman expands on our point for LFCGlobe, too.
Can we confirm that Liverpool are in for Fekir?
No – but there’s absolutely no reason why we’d suddenly abandon our pursuit of a no.10 with three weeks of the transfer window left – especially when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is out for the entirety of 2018/19.
Liverpool will go back in for Fekir. The information given to English press they we’re done in the market is the same as the ‘Ward is no.1’ and ‘We’re not buying a keeper’ stuff. Released for a purpose. It’ll happen.
