Revealed: The three reasons Alisson chose Liverpool over Chelsea

It was expected to be a real tussle between Liverpool and Chelsea as to who’d be able to sign Alisson, but in the end, it was a one-horse race.

Our Premier League rivals never submitted a bid and the Brazilian is currently in Liverpool completing a medical before the transfer is hopefully announced this evening.

The reason the Blues didn’t go big for Alisson, despite the fact their no.1 Thibaut Courtois is likely to join Real Madrid, is because the 25-year-old’s heart was already set on Liverpool.

James Pearce lists three reasons why in the Echo:

“Alisson, who was blown away by the Anfield atmosphere when he played for Roma in the Champions League semi-final last season, is excited about the opportunity to play for Klopp. He has also received a ringing endorsement about life at Liverpool from Brazil team-mate Roberto Firmino.”

Along with Alisson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain rejected Chelsea for us and so did Virgil van Dijk over Christmas.

There was once a time when Chelsea gazumped us in the transfer market, but those days are well and truly over.

In fact, they could potentially lose their three best players in Courtois, N’Golo Kante and Eden Hazard – while we’re keeping all of ours and strengthening at the same time.
