Barcelona linked with sensational move for Liverpool man – report

Simon Mignolet has allegedly landed himself a spot on Barcelona’s six-man shortlist of goalkeeper targets.

The £65million arrival of Alisson from Roma has thrown the Belgian’s Liverpool future further into doubt on the back of a frustrating season on the sidelines.

Mignolet lost his place to Loris Karius early in the campaign after struggling to replicate the fine form that helped the Reds earn a top-four finish in 2016/2017.

The 30-year-old now seems unlikely to settle for a role as third-choice behind Karius and could leave to pursue regular first-team football elsewhere.

Spanish paper Marca claim Barcelona are considering Mignolet as they prepare for life without wantaway back-up Jasper Cillessen. Given how wide of the mark the Spanish press have been in the past when it comes to Liverpool, make of that what you will.

The remainder of Liverpool’s business in the transfer window is expected to be in the form of outgoings as Jurgen Klopp shapes his squad ahead of the new season.

Mignolet’s future is likely to be decided after he returns from his extended break following the World Cup, with his agent recently admitting the need for a review of his position in light of Alisson’s introduction.

Danny Ings will be a fellow high-profile departure after making the decision to leave on a permanent deal in aid of rediscovering his top form following successive season-ending knee injuries between 2015 and 2017.

Now feels the logical time for both to move on for the good of their respective careers. That said, it’s difficult to envision the Nou Camp as Mignolet’s landing spot.
