Talented youngster makes Liverpool comeback after four-month absence

Edvard Tagseth made his comeback from injury on Saturday as Liverpool’s U18s got their pre-season tour of Hungary underway.

The Norwegian midfielder managed 40 minutes as Barry Lewtas’ young Reds recorded a 2-0 win over MTK Budapest U19s.

Tagseth was ruled out for the concluding stages of the 2017/2018 campaign in February after suffering a stress response injury in his left leg.

The 17-year-old’s absence proved an untimely blow to the U18s season, with a number of his teammates earning promotions to the U23s team in light of high profile loan departures.

Two goals from captain Paul Glatzel helped Liverpool and Tagseth enjoy a comfortable start to the summer.

Good to be back playing. 40 minutes in the tank!💪🏽⚽️😄

Tagseth arrived from FK Neset in summer 2017 after impressing the club at an International Academy soccer school in Steinkjer in 2011 before signing a pre-contract agreement

The industrious central midfielder quickly earned a glowing reputation on Merseyside and surfaced as a prominent figure under former U18s manager Steven Gerrard.

His maturity and grace as a reliable distributor of the ball is refreshingly balanced by the grit and fierce work ethic Gerrard strived to install during his short time in charge.

He now promises to be a leading contender for U23s involvement at some point next season, with Neil Critchley expected to be left with another new-look squad to work with.
