Liverpool ace expects LFC talks, appreciates interest amid uncertain future

Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic has revealed that he expects to hold talks with the club over his future before the transfer window deadline.

The 22-year-old joined us in 2016 but with significant competition for places and having played a limited role under Jurgen Klopp, he joined Cardiff on loan in January and played a part in their return to the Premier League.

Having since returned to us and joined up with the squad on the pre-season tour ahead of the new campaign, a decision on his future is still seemingly yet to made as Grujic has revealed that while he appreciates the reported interest from Cardiff, he will sit down with Liverpool to clear up his future first.

“Of course it means a lot to me because I was there – it means I showed some good games to them and they want me back,” he told Sky Sports. “But we will see what the best is for me and for the club.

“I have three years left on my contract at Liverpool. I haven’t spoken yet with the manager and those at the club so we will see in the next two weeks.”

Ultimately, even though we saw Emre Can leave Anfield this summer, by signing Fabinho and Naby Keita, the question has to be asked as to whether or not Grujic will be able to force his way up the pecking order and contribute for us this season.

Add Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana as well as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain if he is able to return from injury this season to the mix, and the picture becomes increasingly bleak for Grujic in terms of playing regularly.

With that in mind, perhaps another temporary exit could suit all parties, but it remains to be seen what the outcome of suggested talks are before next month’s transfer deadline.
