Why Alisson wore unexpected squad number during LFC training session

It was assumed that Alisson Becker would be allowed the no.1 jersey following his £66m move this summer – but it looks like the club is dealing with the situation carefully.

Today during his first training session in Evian, where Liverpool are enjoying a five-day camp, he wore the vacant no.13…

Charlie Adam has bizarrely gone in on Xherdan Shaqiri… Again…

Alex Manninger was the no.13’s last incumbent, but no other player has worn it since Anthony Le Tallec way back in 2005!

Alisson uses the hashtag #AB1 on social media, indicating he’d obviously like the no.1 shirt at some point – but it currently belongs to Loris Karius…

Perhaps Liverpool are waiting for Karius to potentially depart before officially giving Alisson the no.1, so as to avoid upsetting the apple cart?

Interestingly, the same has happened with Fabinho, who’s been wearing no.3 throughout pre-season but has not been given an official number – with rumours suggesting he’s waiting for the no.22 – which will only be vacant once Simon Mignolet departs.

So it looks like our two Brazilian summer signings are currently without squad numbers due to our obsolete goalkeepers!

The way Jurgen Klopp works though, he wouldn’t openly disrespect a current squad player by removing their number – so is probably waiting to see how the rest of the transfer window pans out.

We’ve no problem with this, and we’re sure our new signings don’t either.
