Xherdan Shaqiri has given Jurgen Klopp an unexpected headache

Xherdan Shaqiri has made such a strong impression in Liverpool’s pre-season so far that he could be an unexpected contender to start our first Premier League clash.

The Swiss winger joined from Stoke City this summer and announced himself with a stunning strike in the recently friendly thrashing of Manchester United.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Shaqiri had initially been brought in with the idea of being a backup, which makes sense given the form of our front three of Sadio Mane, Bobby Firmino and Mo Salah last season.

Still, that report now suggests Shaqiri is seriously working his way into contention to become a starter after settling well since his move from the Potters.

This is certainly an exciting development and a great problem for Jurgen Klopp to have ahead of the new campaign.

It begs the question, however, who could make way for the new boy up front? Sadio Mane perhaps seems most likely, though it would be very harsh on the Senegal man.

Either way, Liverpool’s attack is going to be *very* fun to watch again this season!
