Liverpool ‘certainty’ emerges as Lyon float £60m Fekir bait

Lyon are not anticipating a revived move from Liverpool for Nabil Fekir in light of his return from the World Cup.

The French club look set to retain their captain’s services beyond the summer transfer window despite evidently remaining open to selling for their desired price.

Fekir came close to joining the Reds at the beginning of June following the agreement of personal terms and a £53million fee.

He had even conducted interviews with Liverpool’s media department ahead of his expected unveiling, only for concerning medical results to scupper the deal.

Speculation across the World Cup predicted a resurrection of Liverpool’s interest, although little has materialised since France’s triumph in Russia.

French outlet L’Equipe claim ‘one certainty’ is that Liverpool will not be reigning a pursuit for Fekir before Thursday’s deadline.

Nonetheless, the same report suggests Lyon would still be willing to let Fekir leave for an offer upwards of £60million.

Liverpool’s remaining transfer business is likely to come in the form of outgoings as youth players and out-of-favour seniors seeks regular first team football.

Striker Danny Ings is a leading candidate to depart and could be followed out the Anfield exit door by winger Sheyi Ojo, who is attracting a number of Championship clubs.

Naby Keita’s inspired attacking impression in pre-season has partially quashed fears over Liverpool’s failure to recruit an orthodox no.10 to replace Philippe Coutinho.

Fellow summer arrival Xherdan Shaqiri has meanwhile touted himself as an option in not only wider positions but also in a central attacking midfield role.

Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic has once again surfaced as a Klopp target, although any lucrative move away from Germany seems set to be put on hold until next year.
