Jose Mourinho is a worried, sad, troubled man.

He’s spent pre-season slagging off his own squad, criticising players for attending the births of their children and moaning that Manchester United are not financially backing him.

He’s dropped countless criticisms of Liverpool and has delivered another subtle dig today – mooting that the press should be giving us more stick for not winning anything.

“My view is that first of all it’s difficult for me to believe we finished second,” he said, reported in the Echo.

“When I listen, when I read, it’s difficult to believe we finished second because you are capable of making people who finish second (sound like we) were relegated.

“You are capable of making people who win nothing and finish below us look like serial winners.

“It’s difficult for me to believe we finished second.

“Sometimes its also difficult to believe I won eight championships and three Premier Leagues, and I keep thinking the second position last year was one of my biggest achievements in England.”
