Klopp actually beat Mourinho to one of his summer signings (not Fabinho)

Jose Mourinho wanted to bring Xherdan Shaqiri to Old Trafford, but was beaten to the signing by Jurgen Klopp, suggest Siwss outlet Blick.

They claim that the Portuguese manager was attracted to the 26-year-old’s £13m release-clause, but once Shaqiri had spoken to Klopp, he only had eyes for Liverpool.

Shaqiri was arguably the least heralded of our new signings, but perhaps impressed the most during pre-season – scoring a wonder-goal v Manchester United (we bet that boiled Mourinho!) and assisting Daniel Sturridge wonderfully v Torino.

He looks at the moment like the perfect option to cover many positions and we think he’ll prove to be an absolute bargain.

Mourinho moaned at not being backed in the transfer market, but still spent over £80m on midfielder Fred and right-back Diego Dalot. On top of that, he brought in Alexis Sanchez in January and two £90m+ players in 2016 and 2017 in Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku.

But the more he moans, the happier it makes Liverpool fans, who are enjoying the possibility of his traditional third-season breakdown.
