What happened in LFC’s Melwood Friendly last night; with Shaqiri bagging

Jurgen Klopp arranged a 60-minute friendly last night as part of an elongated pre-season for Liverpool’s players that needed a run-out.

No players who started the West Ham game were involved, but pretty much every other senior squad member was against a team made up of Academy players.

The youngsters got taught a bit of a lesson, with Liverpool’s first-team winning 5-0!

Xherdan Shaqiri got the first, Daniel Sturridge added another from the penalty spot, Dominic Solanke notched a brace and Adam Lallana found the net as well.

The likes of Fabinho, Alberto Moreno, Loris Karius, captain Jordan Henderson and Nathaniel Clyne also played.

Shaqiri and Sturridge are clearly in exceptional form right now – and it says a lot about the excellence of our front-three that neither are likely to start against Crystal Palace on Monday evening.

The Eagles are a very tricky opponent, especially at Selhurst Park, but we should be going for a win, aware that Manchester City will likely steamroll Huddersfield.
