Napoli chairman has weird Roma/Liverpool conspiracy theory

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis claims he made a bid for Alisson this summer, but that Liverpool won the race for the Brazilian keeper, because FSG also own Roma…

(They definitely don’t…)

At least that’s what we think the Italian is intimating with this bizarre quotes, which were today shared by Calciomercato.

“Roma? They changed a lot and I don’t know if that’s good,” he began… “I wouldn’t have sold Alisson, not even for €100 million. I had offered €60 million for him but Roma didn’t want to sell him to me. I have a doubt that Roma and Liverpool have the same owner. I was told by somebody a few years ago and if it was true they would not be allowed to play the Champions League.”

We’re not entirely sure what he’s on about, and highly doubt he would have sanctioned a €60m bid for Alisson, so can only assume he’s on the windup!

Liverpool have done superb business with Roma, of course, securing Mo Salah last summer for what’s proved to be a jaw-dropping bargain.

To secure Alisson we had to pay a world-record sum, but if the 25-year-old lives up to his potential, it’ll be a snip.

It’ll be interesting to see what De Laurentiis’s Napoli are capable of this season, though.

They have serial winner Carlo Ancelotti in charge, but have lost Jorginho to Chelsea.

Roma on the other hand have strengthened massively by bringing in Steven Nzonzi, Justin Kluivert and Javier Pastore with the Alisson cash.
