It’s not unusual for players to dream of sporting the Red of Liverpool and calling Anfield home for part of their career.

Striker Wout Weghorst is the latest to express his desire to ply his trade on Merseyside at some point, despite only signing for Wolfsburg during the current summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old boasts a bright reputation out of Netherlands having registered 45 goals and 13 assists in 86 games for former club AZ Alkmaar.

His impressive figures subsequently earned him a move to the Volkswagen Arena in June for a fee in the region of €10 million.

Discussing his ambitions of one day becoming a Red, he De Telegraaf: “I’ve dreamt of [playing for Liverpool] since childhood, If I continue to train with full commitment, I think that opportunity will come.”

“Of course, something like that depends on several factors. You have to stay fit and a coach and club must see it in you, but apart from that you can create many things in life for yourself.”

Weghorst marks an interesting acquisition for Wolfsburg, with the German side having been drawn into a relegation battle last season due to a glaring lack of goals.

Wolfsburg of course served as a temporary home for Divock Origi during the 2017/2018 as the Belgian left Liverpool in search of regular first-team football.

Though a move to Liverpool seems highly-unlikely for Weghorst, his appreciation for the club is another refreshing reminder of the its global lure and prestige.

Corentin Tolisso’s similar dreams of playing in front of the Kop were also revealed back in June, just a year after the Frenchman had joined Bayern Munich.
