Xherdan Shaqiri sends glorious gift to Gary Neville – makes special plea to pundit

Xherdan Shaqiri has taken special steps to ensure Gary Neville lives up to a bet he lost with Sky Sports colleague Jamie Carragher.

The former Manchester United man has since refused to pay the price after losing to Carragher in a high-stakes penalty shootout.

His punishment? To wear the shirt of his fiercest club rival – meaning the red of Liverpool.

Neville has been urged to follow through with the wager when Liverpool face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park for the first Monday Night Football of the Premier League season.

Summer-signing Shaqiri has now played his part in the debate by sending Neville a signed Liverpool shirt, bearing a special message on the back.

It reads: “To my no.1 fan Gary, please don’t track back – SORRY – please don’t backtrack on this bet.”

Shaqiri and Neville have history, with the Swiss international coming under criticism from the pundit following his relegation with Stoke City last season.

Speaking at the World Cup, Neville admitted he wasn’t a fan of Shaqiri before suggesting he had ‘distanced himself’ from his teammates.

The playmaker went on to enjoy an impressive campaign in Russia and has since teased glimpses of becoming an inspired bargain for Liverpool.

He is expected to start on the bench again for Jurgen Klopp’s men this evening.
