Milner was at hand to give the Reds a welcomed breakthrough on the stroke of half-time when he calmly converted from the penalty spot after Mohamed Salah had been brought down by Mamadou Sakho.
In doing so, he became the first player in Premier League history to make it eight goals in a row from 12 yards.
