Liverpool open talks over €30 million sale – but deal could be complicated

Divock Origi appears to edging closer to a Liverpool departure after failing to impress during the club’s pre-season campaign.

The striker struggled in his bid to earn a place back in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans this summer after returning from his season-long loan with Wolfsburg.

A return to the Bundesliga may now be on the cards, with Borussia Dortmund having emerged as leading contenders to sign the Belgian.

Klopp’s former club are eager to recruit a striker before the end of the month having been unable to resign Michy Batshuayi following his successful loan spell at the Westfalenstadion last season.

The two clubs have opened talks over a deal, with Liverpool favouring a permanent sale for £27million and Dortmund preferring an initial loan deal with an option to buy, according to ESPN.

Origi had been subject to interest from Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier in the window, but wasn’t keen on making the move to Molineux.

The 23-year-old’s lacklustre pre-season marked a familiar theme to his career on Merseyside, with undeniable talent refraining from materialising into a maintained influence.

In all honesty, he hasn’t quite been the same ever since his brightest spell in a Liverpool shirt was cruelly cut short by a horrific tackle from then Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori, which left Origi sidelined for a month.

A glaring void at Dortmund beckons as an excellent opportunity for him to rediscover his top form within a team of talented technicians.

To reel in £27million would also be an inspired piece of business for Liverpool were the move to go through.
