Liverpool have ‘unbelievable weapon’ on their bench this season, says ex-Red

Liverpool’s squad depth has been praised by former Reds star Danny Murphy, who believes Daniel Sturridge could be a really useful option for Jurgen Klopp this season.

The England international has had his difficulties at Anfield in recent times, and then got injured on loan at West Brom last season.

Far from ideal for Sturridge, but he’s always been a quality player when fit and he’s looked as good as he has for a long time in pre-season this summer.

Whilst clearly not a starter any longer due to the presence of the tireless Bobby Firmino in Jurgen Klopp’s preferred ‘false 9’ role for the main striker, there’s room for something different in this squad too.

It’s easy to see Sturridge making some impact off the bench if he carries on as he has, and Murphy believes that could be a great ‘weapon’ for us as the campaign goes on.

Asked if Liverpool could spread the goals around rather than relying too heavily on the front three, Murphy told BWIN: “I think a huge bonus for Liverpool will prove to be Daniel Sturridge.

“He is probably the best striker sitting on the bench in the Premier League and he will be an unbelievable weapon, if Liverpool can keep him fit.

“He’s a lethal goalscorer and he will score at least 10 goals in the league this season, if he’s happy to be a squad player and contribute whenever he’s called upon.

“He has immense ability and can create goals out of nothing and score from anywhere. He’s a natural finisher.”
