Klopp explains why he’s not happy despite Liverpool’s fast start

Jurgen Klopp insists he’s not particularly happy about the way we’ve started this season as this is what he expects from Liverpool.

Strong words from our manager, with the Reds in particularly dazzling form in the 4-0 thrashing of West Ham, while the 2-0 at Crystal Palace showed an impressive resilience that we’ve perhaps lacked at crucial points in recent years.

Still, it’s clear Klopp is setting high standards at Anfield this season and sees no reason to be too excited by what he’s seen from the team so far.

Let’s hope the German’s tough stance here can motivate the squad to keep going – we don’t want him to start being a Jose Mourinho and filling the place with negativity!

In all seriousness though, there’s a clear difference in the way Klopp manages expectations, and it’s good to see he’s not necessarily allowing the lads to buy into the hype too much.

“We had good games and difficult games during pre-season and we performed quite well. That was a sign of how it could be but the Premier League is completely different but I’m not excited about it,” he’s quoted in the Echo.

“We should expect [form] like that from us. People expect that from us but we should at least expect to perform how we have been. If that’s the best football we can play that’s pretty poor. I’m sure we can improve and we need to be ready for all the games in different competitions.”

Liverpool take on Brighton in their next Premier League clash, and may need to be wary of Chris Hughton’s plucky side after they shocked Manchester United last week.
