Ex-Red takes swipe at Man Utd with Liverpool prediction

Michael Owen has taken a subtle swipe at Manchester United as he predicts a big win for Liverpool against Brighton.

In case you missed the hilarity of last weekend, Brighton outplayed United with a 3-2 win in their last game, and now come to Anfield this Saturday.

However, Owen expects us to be a different proposition altogether for Chris Hughton’s side, telling the Metro he expects us to enjoy a comfortable 3-0 victory.

Now, considering at the start of the season you’d have had us and United pretty much on an equal footing in terms of how close we might be to challenging Manchester City for the title, that is undoubtedly quite a dig.

If Brighton can expect an easy ride against Jose Mourinho’s men but take a battering against us the following week, what does that say?

Owen might be a bit of an odd-ball who doesn’t like films or tea, but we enjoyed the way he fit this little dig in.

‘A fantastic win for Brighton against a largely out-of-sorts Manchester United at the Amex on Sunday, but they will find the pace, energy and quality of Jurgen Klopp’s Reds a different proposition at Anfield,’ Owen said in the Metro.

‘These are very early days, but the clean sheet for Liverpool at Selhurst Park on Monday was significant for me. In previous campaigns the Reds may have wilted and conceded against the Eagles, but Virgil van Dijk and Alisson have added composure and quality to Jurgen Klopp’s defence.

‘Whoever finishes above Liverpool in the PL this term will win the title.’
