Liverpool kept their seventh home clean sheet in a row in the Premier League yesterday with a 1-0 win over Brighton.

Remarkably, that’s the first time we’ve gone on a run that good since February 2007 under Rafael Benitez, according to the tweet below from Sky Sports Statto.

This is quite a transformation by the Reds since our start to last season was marred by some shocking defensive displays, making it all the harder for our fearsome attack to deliver the goods.

A year on, we’re grinding out wins by the odd goal and looking water-tight back there thanks to the additions of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson – money any initial sceptics must now agree was very well spent.

Let’s hope this impressive stat shows a real improvement that can see us mount a serious challenge to Manchester City this year, with many pundits talking us up as the most likely to dethrone the current champions.

We made them look pretty ordinary in the Champions League last season, but going the distance over the course of the season is an entirely different challenge.

With defensive stats like this, however, we might finally be on to something…
