Alisson news: Strange claim made about Klopp’s opinion of brilliant Brazilian

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp preferred Jan Oblak to Alisson this summer, but was put off by the price-tag, the Mirror claim.

Their report, which is based on dubious Spanish sources, suggests Liverpool only went for Brazil’s no.1 when it was established that we wouldn’t be able to secure Atletico Madrid’s Slovenien for less than his €100m release-clause.

Alisson did sign for a world record £66m fee, however (only for Chelsea to break this by buying Kepa for even more more).

The 25-year-old has started Anfield life superbly – keeping three clean-sheets in his first three competitive matches and helping Klopp’s Reds to the top of early Premier League table. Last time out against Brighton, Alisson made a key save late on and showed some phenomenal skill with the ball at his feet, too.

It’s no surprise that we made enquiries for a number of top goalkeepers, but it would be wrong to suggest Alisson wasn’t first-choice. Liverpool wouldn’t pay £66m on a secondary option; it’s just not how Klopp does things, as proven by how he waited for Virgil van Dijk and Naby Keita.

Oblak is tremendous of course, but he doesn’t have the same distribution or ability to sweep up behind his defence as Alisson.

We think the giant South American will guard our net for the next decade. Loris Karius has departed on loan, but Simon Mignolet will stay as Alisson’s backup, whether he likes it or not.
