Carra reveals how Rodgers offered him a job but changed his mind

Jamie Carragher has made a very interesting claim in his Telegraph column, which you can read in its entirety in the hyperlink just shared.

Our legendary former defender, who despite working neutrally in the media is still a massive fan, was offered a job on Brendan Rodgers’ backroom staff when the Northern Irishman was appointed six years ago.

Days after though, Rodgers changed his mind!

“After joining Liverpool as manager in 2012 he told me he wanted me on his backroom team. I accepted the offer,” Carra began.

“The second time I met him he had changed his mind and decided to promote Mike Marsh from the Academy instead.

“I’m not sure what happened in those couple of weeks but I often wonder what might have been. Maybe I would still be at Liverpool rather than working in the media. Maybe I would have been bitten by the coaching bug and going through the same emotions as Steven Gerrard this weekend, coming up against a manager I worked with and using all my experience of how he works to try and get the better of him.”

We can imagine our ex-no.23 would make a terrific coach, judging by his tactical understanding of the game, his passion, determination and communication skills.

In our mind, he’s the best pundit in Britain, although Gary Neville showed that’s no guarantee of achieving things as a manager!

At some point we think Carra will give it a whirl, but it’s not like he has to prove anything to anyone and if he’s happy in the studio, fair play.

Maybe he’ll finally make a return once Steven Gerrard takes the reigns from Jurgen Klopp at some point in the future!
