Lazar Markovic has preferred to stay as a non-footballing employee of Liverpool than sign for Anderlecht.

The Serb rejected a late move to Belgium because of personal terms, and will not remain at Melwood, despite the fact Jurgen Klopp has never selected him a single match-day squad since he arrived as manager in 2015.

Anderlecht boss Hein Vanhaezebrouck is not at all impressed with the 24-year-old’s conduct, as this tweet from journalist Kristof Terreur proves:

We’re not especially sure what Markovic’s deal is. Obviously, he likes the money he earns more than progressing his career.

Buying him in 2014 was a terrible decision and he’s cost the clubs millions.

We also got Mario Balotelli for £16m that summer, in what was largely a pretty shocking window, all things considered.

It would be our assumption that Markovic would leave in January, but we can actually see him rotting with the U23s until the end of the campaign, when he can leave on a Bosman and get e nice sign-on bonus with a new club.
