Niger goalkeeper gives superb reaction to facing Mohamed Salah

Niger goalkeeper Kassaly Daouda admits he is proud to have twice denied Mohamed Salah from the penalty spot in Saturday’s clash with Egypt.

A busy night for the Liverpool forward saw him find the net twice and register two assists as Egypt ran out 6-0 winners in the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier.

Daouda prevented a nightmare start for his nation when he displayed excellent reflexes to dive low at his right-hand side and stop Salah’s first-minute penalty.

He went on to thwart Salah from 12-yards for a second time later in the game, although the Reds’ no.11 was quick to react and poke home the rebound.

Daouda said, per Kingfut: “I have entered history with two penalties against Salah. Despite the success of Salah in the second kick, I am very happy with what I did.”

“I will be proud and honored to be successful in front of my children Salah.”

Salah’s second goal arrived in the 86th minute when he capitalised on some slack defending to meet a cross and head home from close range.

Egypt’s talisman also had a hand in two others goal, first assisting Marwan Mohsen for the opener before supplying Salah Mohsen for a fourth.

It seems unlikely Salah will have to worry about spot-kicks at club level, with James Milner having cemented his responsibility as penalty taker.

That said, it will be interesting to see whether the duties are handed over to summer signing Fabinho when he eventually breaks in Jurgen Klopp’s first team.

The Brazilian arrived at the club having converted 13 out of 13 penalties during his time with Monaco, but did miss from the spot in Liverpool’s pre-season friendly against Torino.
