We agreed the transfer of the the 16-year-old with Ajax back in August, but only now will he be able to feature for our youth teams.

Yesterday, we signed Barnet’s giant goalkeeper Kai McKenzie-Lyle, proving Liverpool never stand still in the transfer market, even when it’s closed for first-team arrivals.

Hoever is a defender with exceptional physical attributes and we can tell Under-18s manager Barry Lewtas is excited to work with him, although he’s sensibly tried to play down expectations.

“Ki’s just been away with the national team and played right-back, but he’s played centre-back. He’s got a load of real positive attributes,” Lewtas said, according to the Echo.

“I don’t want to sell him too much. Ajax is a big club and he comes in with a big reputation – he’s an international.

“But I certainly don’t want to heap too much pressure on him. He’s early in his journey here, he’ll take some time to adapt.

“What I can say is that he’s trained really well and I know he’s going to fit in really well.”

Hoever has caps ad Netherlands youth level and if he’s willing to work incredibly hard in order to fulfil his talent, we’re the perfect club for him to do it.

Right now, Jurgen Klopp fields two players in his first-team defence who were regarded as promising youngsters when he first arrived in 2015 in Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez.

With Curtis Jones also progressing wonderfully and getting chances over the summer, there’s a clear sign that under Klopp, if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.
